Mathematical Methods 2

Basics of calculus of several variables, elementary linear algebra, Taylor and Fourier series. Mathematical software (Maple).

Learning outcome

The student should:
  • know basic concepts of elementary linear algebra; be able to handle systems of linear equations and solve eigenvalue problems;
  • be able to analyse convergence/divergence of series; find the Taylor and Fourier series of a given simple function;
  • have basic knowledge of multi-variable calculus.
  • know how to use the computer software program MAPLE to solve elementary problems in one- and multi-variable calculus.

Coursework requirements

Compulsory assignment exercises.
There are three compulsory assignment during the course, one of which is in Maple. Students may take the final exam only if all compulsory assignments are approved.

Method of work

6 hours of lectures and 2 hours of exercise classes, compulsory hand-in assignments. Compulsory assigments must be approved by the lecturer at least three weeks ahead of the examination date.
