Bachelor's theses can have several different forms. In many theses include construction - or experimental work, while other theses are more theoretical. A thesis can be an overview-based thesis where an overview of a concept is made out of different literature sources, a more completementary discussion-based thesis, or a thesis aiming to solve a spesific problem or develop a product. Generally a thesis must include a clearly defined aim, be well structured, easy to navigate in and easy to read. The arguments for and a against a certain statement must be logically presented. A fellow student with a similar background should be able to read the thesis without having to use extra information material in order to understand the message. Reproduction of content from teaching books etc. about general theory and knowledge should be limited. The candidate must make a list of references for the thesis.

Method of work

Project work: It is important for both student and supervisor to establish a successfull cooperation throughout the work progress. This can for example be accomplished trough regular meetings where the student present and discuss the work during the working progress. A good practice is that the student has written something prior to the meeting as a basis for discussions with the supervisor. It is an advantage for the student to start the writing prosess as soon as possible.
The Bachelor project should be relevant to the study programme. The student may either choose in a list of proposed projects given by the academic staff at the department, he/she may propose his/her own project and get help to formulate it together with one of the staff, or have a project proposal from a company or a firm. The project may be performed individually or in cooperation with one or two other students. It is important both to the student and the advisor that a good cooperation routine is established during the execution of the project. This may e.g. take the form of regular meetings in which the student will present and discuss his/her work as it develops. Preferably the student should have written something that can form the basis of the conversation/discussion with the advisor. It is an advantage to start writing the thesis at the earliest possible stage The course, Philosophy of Science will be given as a concentrated lecture series of 10-12 hours in the beginning of the semester. This course will form a basis for a written essay on a chosen theme.
The lectures will be 4 hour per week in week 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. It is planned to stream the lectures. The essay must be submitted by March 15 (the essay must be minimum 5000 words). Topic for essay (Philosophy of science or Ethics) will be selected randomly after the last lecture. The essay is submitted electronically using Canvas.
