Depositional Systems

This is the study programme for 2019/2020. It is subject to change.

This course concentrates on the building blocks of the sedimentary rock record, their geometries and evolution through time. It also stresses the importance of depositional systems in a contexct of source rocks and reservoir rocks as well as their spatial relationship in the geologic record.

Learning outcome

After completing this course, the stduents should be able to:
  • Understand the basic and advanced concepts on the formation of reservoirs
  • Understand the stacking patterns of reservoirs in the geological record
  • Sound knowledge base for reservoir, seal and souce rock prediction in hydrocarbon exploration and production

  • Sedimentary processes
  • Depositional systems
  • Facies and depositional elements/geometries
  • Stratigraphy and sedimentary architectures/reservoir architectures
