Who does what?

Employees and students have clear roles and responsibilities in relation to continually working to improve the quality of study programmes.

Student

As a student you can contribute to developing the quality of the study programmes and a good learning environment through active participation in the student fora. For examples of the student faculty board and the student parliament, or in the formal bodies such as the university board, the faculty board, the department board, the "Senterstyre" board, the quality and learning environment committee, the education committee, the quality committee, etc., see Boards and committees at UiS. You can also participate in evaluations, dialogues and surveys. In addition, you can use different reporting systems, see Let us know.

Lecturer/course co-ordinator

The lecturer/course co-ordinator is responsible for the study quality within a subject/course. The lecturer/course co-ordinator shall keep up-to-date academically and contribute to high-quality education. The lecturer takes the initiative to meet with student representatives and works closely with and reports to the head of a department.

Head of department

All study programmes belong to a department with a head of department. The head of the department is personally responsible for the employees in the department and is also responsible for work on quality and relevance within the study programme at the department. The head of the department prepares an annual report for work on quality at the department. The head of the department shall work to develop a good learning environment.

The vice dean of teaching

All departments belong to one faculty. Each faculty has a vice dean of teaching. The vice dean of teaching is the permanent head of the quality committee at the faculty and has particular tasks related to the work on quality. The vice dean of teaching works closely with students and academic employees, administrative employees at the faculty, the vice deans at the other faculties, and with the vice rector and the education department.

Dean

Each faculty is headed by a dean. The dean is the senior academic and administrative head for employees at the faculty. The dean is accountable for the quality of the study programme and for work on quality at the faculty. The dean prepares the annual report for work on quality at the department. The dean works closely with the vice deans of teaching and research, the faculty director and the heads of departments and centres.

The vice rector

The vice rector is part of the rectorate at the university and is deputy head of the university board. The vice rector supports the rector in his/hers work, and has special responsibility for work on quality. The vice rector is head of the education committee at the university, which prepares the annual report for work on quality for the board each year.

The rector

The rector is part of the rectorate. The rector is the senior academic head of the University of Stavanger and is head of the university board.

The director of academic affairs

The director of academic affairs is responsible for gathering, reworking and communicating basic data for work on quality and that the quality system works as intended.

The university director

The university director is the senior head of administration at the university and presents cases to the board, including the university's annual report for work on quality.
