You can get a glimpse of this network during the Fadder festival week. I have joined in with the spirit of it, and work with the Fadder team on activities ranging from helicopter sightseeing, to uphill running, to a Christian welcome service. During Fadder week, you will be able to meet most of the numerous student organisations, and the Christian service is a chance to meet Stavanger's various student parishes and student Christian organisations.
The student organisation StOr also organises many excellent events. It's well worth coming along to their "Coffee around the world" and Cinema Lottery meetings, which are held every Thursday at 14.00 in the Book Cafe. These are very international occasions, and are a great opportunity to meet students from all over the world and to win one of eight cinema tickets for the film showing that evening.
With the number of international students at Stavanger growing all the time, I have become more involved with the Unit for Student Services, and work with them during International Orientation Week and International Day. I also work with StOr during its "Lys i (eksamens) mørke" (Light in the [exam] darkness) campaign in December. And of course I have to mention the Student Welfare Association (SiS) that attends to many aspects of student welfare in Stavanger. Particularly important here is their work with SiS Health, holding regular meetings, stands and the "Trekk pusten" (catch your breath) spring exam campaign.
