Classes in English from the library

The University library offers a wide range of classes for students and staff, like EndNote and Zotero. The Data lab offers classes and workshops on different software.

The University library offers classes in the following programs: EndNote, Zotero, Tableau, Adobe InDesign, SPSS, Nvivo and LaTeX. Additionally there will a class on academic writing and several sessions with Shut Up & Write. See our page on classes for more information.

Most classes will be in the Data Lab (KE A-259), with a few exceptions. Some workshops require registration. See information about this under the class or workshop you are interested in.


Academic writing session
In this session, we focus on evaluating and citing sources, developing a good research statement and structure. You will also receive advice on how to keep the writing process going and strategies you can use to express your argument in a way that engages the reader.

EndNote
EndNote is a useful tool for managing references and creating bibliographies in Word. You can export references from library catalogs and databases into EndNote.       

There will be classes on EndNote in English for master students, PhD and staff the following dates:

  • 19th of September 09.15 - 11.00
    Place: KE A-253
  • 15th of October, 11.15 - 13.00
    Place: KE A-259 (Data lab)


Zotero
Zotero is a free and open program that helps you insert correct references into your text as well as a correct reference list at the end of your paper. It works with Word and LaTeX. It is regarded as easier to learn than EndNote, and requires less technical competency from the user. Because of this, it is suitable for students at all levels.

There will be classes on Zotero in English for all students the following dates, in the Data lab (KE A-259):

  • 25th of September, 12.15 - 14.00
  • 22nd of October, 13.15 - 15.00
     

LaTeX
Introductory class teaching you the document preparation system LaTeX.

Please download and install MikTeX and Texmaker before the class.

The class in English will be in the Data lab (KE A-259) on the 12th of September, 12.15 - 14.00. 


Tableau
Tableau is a software that allows you to import and analyze data sets, either your own or others that are available.   

The workshop in English will be in the Data lab (KE A-259) on the 14th of October, 12.15 - 15.00. Sign up here.


Adobe InDesign
Adobe Indesign is a software that lets you create page design and layout for print and digital media, such as posters, flyers and front covers.           

The workshop in English will be in the Data lab (KE A-259) on the 7th of November, 12.15 - 15.00. Sign-up is required, and will open soon.


Nvivo
Nvivo is a software that helps you organize, analyze and visualize qualitative data.            

There will be workshops in English for students the following dates, in the Data lab (KE A-259):

SPSS
SPSS is a software for working with statistics and quantitative methods.

The class in English will be in the Data lab (KE A-259) on the 3rd of October, 09.15 - 11.00.

Do you need help to start writing and keep the flow going? Then a session with Shut Up & Write might be what you need!

There will be sessions with Shut Up & Write for all students and staff the following dates, in the Study lab:
